macOS Sequoia

Android file transfer on macOS Sequoia without the cloud.

If Android File Transfer or OpenMTP does not see your phone on Sequoia, the problem is often USB mode, a cable, or another Mac process claiming MTP first. SmoothDroid is a maintained wired alternative for macOS 12 or newer.

Start with the Sequoia basics

  • Unlock the phone after connecting it.
  • Select File Transfer, MTP, or Android Auto from the Android USB notification.
  • Use a known data-capable cable, not a charge-only cable.
  • Quit other transfer tools before opening SmoothDroid.
  • Try a direct Mac port if a dock or hub is involved.

Common Mac-side blockers

Photo import helpers, Image Capture, Preview, Samsung Smart Switch, Android development tools, cloud sync tools, and old Android File Transfer helpers can all interfere with a clean MTP session. SmoothDroid is built around surfacing those failure modes more clearly.

What SmoothDroid adds

You get side-by-side Mac and Android browsing, drag and drop, copy buttons, recursive folder transfers, rename, delete, folder creation, progress visibility, and practical recovery guidance when connection setup fails.

What it is not

SmoothDroid is not a cloud sync service, phone manager, remote-control suite, or wireless pairing tool. It is a focused native Mac utility for local USB/MTP file transfer.
