First checks
- Unlock the Android device after connecting it.
- Open the Android USB notification and choose File Transfer, MTP, or Android Auto.
- Use a cable that is known to transfer data, not just charge.
- Try a direct USB-C port instead of a dock or hub.
- Reconnect the cable, keep the phone unlocked, and click Retry Connection.
Quit likely blockers
Close other apps that may inspect cameras, phones, or USB storage: Android File Transfer, OpenMTP, MacDroid, Samsung Smart Switch, Preview, Image Capture, Photos, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Garmin Express, and Android Studio or adb.
What to send if it still fails
- Mac model and chip: for example MacBook Air M2, Mac mini M4, or Intel iMac.
- macOS version: for example Sequoia 15.x or Tahoe 26.x.
- Android brand, model, and Android version.
- The exact SmoothDroid error text or screenshot.
- Whether the same cable works for data transfer with another computer.
Refund policy
If SmoothDroid cannot connect to your phone after the setup checks, email within 14 days. I will either troubleshoot the device case directly or refund the purchase.
