Connection help

SmoothDroid not detecting your Android phone?

Most failures come from USB mode, a charge-only cable, a locked phone, a hub, or another Mac app claiming the MTP interface before SmoothDroid can open it.

First checks

  1. Unlock the Android device after connecting it.
  2. Open the Android USB notification and choose File Transfer, MTP, or Android Auto.
  3. Use a cable that is known to transfer data, not just charge.
  4. Try a direct USB-C port instead of a dock or hub.
  5. Reconnect the cable, keep the phone unlocked, and click Retry Connection.

Quit likely blockers

Close other apps that may inspect cameras, phones, or USB storage: Android File Transfer, OpenMTP, MacDroid, Samsung Smart Switch, Preview, Image Capture, Photos, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Garmin Express, and Android Studio or adb.

What to send if it still fails

  • Mac model and chip: for example MacBook Air M2, Mac mini M4, or Intel iMac.
  • macOS version: for example Sequoia 15.x or Tahoe 26.x.
  • Android brand, model, and Android version.
  • The exact SmoothDroid error text or screenshot.
  • Whether the same cable works for data transfer with another computer.

Refund policy

If SmoothDroid cannot connect to your phone after the setup checks, email within 14 days. I will either troubleshoot the device case directly or refund the purchase.
