Start with the fast checks
- Unlock the Android phone before opening the transfer app.
- Tap the USB notification on Android and choose File Transfer, MTP, or Android Auto.
- Use a data-capable USB cable, not a charge-only cable.
- Connect directly to the Mac instead of through a hub while testing.
- Quit other transfer tools, cloud sync tools, photo import apps, and Preview, then reconnect the phone.
Why SmoothDroid is different
SmoothDroid is built specifically for Android file transfer on Mac. It shows your Mac and Android storage side by side, supports drag and drop, and detects common macOS or third-party MTP conflicts so you get recovery steps instead of a generic failure dialog.
Transfers stay local over USB. There is no cloud relay, account, browser extension, or Android companion app.
When to use it
Use SmoothDroid when you want a native, signed, and notarized Mac app for moving photos, videos, folders, downloads, APKs, documents, or backups between macOS and an Android phone.
It is intentionally narrow: wired Android USB/MTP transfer for people who want their files without setting up a sync service.
